1793-1950 by Louise Fortune Hall: The first name given to the community that
is now Damascus was Mock's Mill, for the grist mill built by Henry Mock, the first of the Mock family to
settle here. Henry Mock was b. in 1794 in Davie Co., NC, where his grandfather,
Peter Mock,
settled after coming from Germany to PA about 1752. (Notes 1 & 4) Ed. Note:
If Peter was b. 1742 he would have been 10 yrs. old in 1752 and too young to be
on passenger list.

On this 12th day of
June, AD 1885 personally appeared before me J.T. McIntosh, C.S.C., in and or
the State and Co. aforesaid, Elizabeth Mock, age 49 yrs and a resident at
Hedricks post office in said Co. and State, and who being duly sworn, makes the
following declaration in order to obtain the pension under the provisions of an
act entitled "an Act for relief of certain soldiers in the late war between the
States," ratified 11th Mar 1885, that she is the widow of the late Lewis
W. Mock who
enlisted in Co. 1, 40 Reg. NC State Troops, on or about 30 day of Sept, 1862, to
serve in the armies of the late Confederate States, and that while in
performance of duty in said Co. & Reg., in the State of NC on or about the
11 day of July 1863, re received a wound or wounds, which terminated his life. Died at Fort Fisher, NC 11 Jul1863. [form continues but give no additional
info.]

your husband is Dead and Beried he Died the 11 I staied With him in the
hospitle Day and Night till he died and Don all for him that I could but it
seames as it Was the lords will to take him out of this troblesom world and I
hope that he Is gon to rest and is beter off than them that is here for a man
sees no pleasure In this troblesom world I will say t you that I don all that I
could to git to come home and bring him home but I could not git off I had him
put a Way as good as I could and good enough I will say to you all as I could
not git him home now that it would bee the best to let him stay here till cold
Weather for if I wase to start with him now it would bee on surtin [uncertain]
I would git him home or not For I don't now wheather the general would a let me
a put him one the train at Wilmington or not it would a bin Just as he pleased
a bout it wheather he Would or not for people has got so mean Tha they Don't
care for no wone I Will say to you that I will take care of his things as god
as I can and If I ever git to come home I will Bring them to you or if you want
me to I ca sell them and give you The money he had a right new pare of shooes
and his blanket I wont sell Them and I will try and git what Money is coming to
him yet there is About twenty Dollars dew him yet I have got seventeen Dolars
of his money if you want me to send it to you Let me now and I will send it to
you. I send you and Father
and Mother my love and best Respect I want you all to Remember Me and if I
never see you no more in This World I hope to met you I heaven So I will close

#1.1.1 - Fredrick Mock, s/o Peter Mock Jr. & Elizabeth - from Ancestorsof
Claude RankinMoser, Pioneers of Catawba Co., NC by James & Mary Moser Beddingfield. Quote: É traces the Moser
migration from Germany to PA to MD where they became Moravian & then moved
to Surrey Co., NC, near Salem. Sometime before 1790 Jacob Moser Jr. moved
withhis parents from Frederick Co., MD to Lincoln Co., NC. 10 Jun 1817 Jacob
Moser Jr. bought his 4 brothers' share of 150 acres on Elk Shoal Creek. 15 Aug
1835 Jacob Moser Jr. bought 701 acres of land on Elk Shoal Creek just across
the Catawba River in Iredell Co., later to become Alexander Co., NC. His dau. Elizabeth
(Mrs. Frederick Mock) & her family were neighbors on the 1840 census. The MOCK home is
still standing. According to tradition it was built by Moser slaves ca1840Éand
was the first brick house built in what is now Alexander Co., (Aphoto of the
house appears in the MOSER bk.
Elizabeth MOCK was bur. beside her husband Frederick MOCK at
Marvin United Methodist Church cem. in Alexander Co.,
On 28 Sep 1858 Henry Moser purchased 300 acres from
Frederick MOCK. This land É joining Frederick MockÉ edge of Mock's mill poind.
The deed contained some unusual wording to the effect that Henry's heirs would
pay a penalty if the land was not sold back to the Mock family after Henry's
death. (Henry Moser's plantation was sold back to Frederick Mock's sons, Henry
& Jacob in 1866. Frederick Mock's dau. Lavina was an heir of Henry Moser.)
He willed 6 negro slaves to Lavina. Lavina Mock Young, wife of Samuel YoungÉ
#1.2 - Note 5 - Henry Mock died in 1841 and the Davie Co.,
estate papers for that year list the following children: George Mock, Peter
Mock, Sally Mock Binkley, Henry Mock Jr., Mary Mock Sheek & William Mock. William migrated to Henry Co., IN
and his brother Henry Jr. moved to Washington Co., VA.

lived in the administration of 23 presidents of the U.S. He was born in 1794
and died in 1892. I am father's 30th child. Have two boys, six
girls, 16 grandchildren and 9 g-grandchildren and none of them are any relation
to me. I am my boy's 4th father and my wife is their 5th
mother. My oldest boy married his sister. My father's age and my age added
together equals the same number of years since the signing of the Declaration
of Independence. Napoleon was 25 years old when my father was born. Father
traveled with Daniel Boone. My father was 79 when I was born"
This was written in 1939. Isaac Mock was 66 at the time.
He died at age 84, 11 Dec 1957. He and his 1st wife adopted 2 boys
who had been in 3 other homes. After his wife died, he remarried and his wife
became their 5th mother and he was their 4th father. His
wife had 6 girls and one of the girls married one of the adopted boys who was
no relation.
