Notes from the research of James P. Mock
Please note that the families of Mathias(1114)
and Cornelius Mauk (1115) have
been moved from "Working Chart" #55 to this chart, identifying them as children
of Frederick Mauck b. 1779,
s/o Mathias b. 1751 & Catherine
Anna Crum. Mathias's other
children and Anna Crum relocated to Ohio in the vicinity of Muskingum Co, Perry
Co. and thereabouts. In 1810
Frederick and his mother, Anna Crum are listed in the 1810 census of Frederick
Co, VA. Frederick sold his land he
inherited from his father Mathias in 1811 and disappears shortly thereafter.
1115 - Cornelius Mauk's birthplace is indicated as "near Battletown, Frederick Co., VA". Battletown is current day Berryville, Clarke Co, VA. Clarke Co. was formed from Frederick Co., VA. Only 1 Mauk/Mauck/Mock/Mack etc family lived near Battletown/Berryville 1763-1850+: Frederick Mauk 1763-1779; Mathias 1763-1802 & his sons (including the Frederick I think is father of Mathias & Cornelius).
Frederick Mauk bought his land in 1763. It was divided amongst his sons when he died. When his sons died, it was divided amongst their sons. The land was located on the current day border of Clarke Co, VA & Frederick Co., VA between Stephenson & Berryville/Battletown, northeast of Winchester. The closest other Mauk clan lived over 50 miles away, south of Winchester.
The first children listed on chart #55 – Angeline, Reson & Kemerelsa Mauk have been included in #37 for now. Frederick probably had more children than listed, but those are probably not their names. I believe one of the sons is the Franklin Mauk, b. 1809 VA that is a DNA match and listed with his descendants in chart #85.
Further research is needed to document these possibilities.

Note from Harold Mauk: All of the data in my records from Cornelius and
Mathias on down has been substantiated. The only part not for sure is
Gottlieb's wife and the 1st
three children Angeline, Reson & Kemerelsa. That part I have from a
letter Gilbert Mauk wrote in 1923 about his grandfather. I have found no other
trace of them.
