- Martin Henry Mock's obituary
Obituary --Mock
Martin
H. Mock, aged 86 years, 1 month and 17 days, a former resident of this
community, died at the soldiers home hospital, Marshalltown, at 1:30 Sunday
morning, of the infirmaries of age.
Martin
H. Mock was born near Middletown, MD on the old National Pike Nov. 30, 1840. He was the son of Henry & Julia
Mock and the last survivor of eleven children.
When
the civil war broke out Mr. Mock enlisted March 15, 1862 at the Middletown, in
Co. E, Third Maryland infantry, Potomic home brigade, and was discharged May
29, 1865 at Baltimore, MD. He was
one of four brothers to serve their country, Frederick dying in Andersonville
prison. The battle of Antiatam was
fought in his home neighborhood, several confederates being killed in his
father's house. He was marched to
the defense of washington each time it was attacked by the confederates, and
once as his regiment passed the capitol Abraham Lincoln came out on the porch
and called to them, saying: "Boys, it is better to see you here than to
hear that you are coming."
After
the war he came west, and Feb. 1, 1875, was married to Miss Martha Jones in
Ogle county, IL. In 1886 they came
to Iowa and, with the exception of twelve years in Conrad, resided in Marshall
county until they passed away.
He
is survived by six children: Will
Mock, Carrington, N.D.; Harry Mock, Moscow, Idaho; Della Mock, Peoria, IL; Mrs.
Deborah Simcox, Lamoille; Mrs Julia Hulin, Mrs. Bertha Doud, Gilman.
Good,
honest, kind-heared Martin Mock has finished his labors on earth and entered
into a well-earned rest. His
children cherish the memory of a loving father. As a patriot and citizen he was zealous and true, and his
fellow men exteemed his friendship and honored him for his fine qualities of
manhood. He was baptized in the
German Lutheran church at Middletown and professed and lived a Christian
life. His last days were spent
waiting patiently for the time when he could meet his Pilot fce to face.
Funeral
services were held in the soldiers home chapel at 1p.m., and burial was in
Prairie View cemetery, Gilman, beside his wife, who died Aug. 27, 1922.

1162.33 - William G. Mock's obituary
William
G. Mock, 56, of Liscomb (Iowa) dropped dead following a heart attack in the
Liscomb pool hall Tuesday evening.
Mock had been bailing hay all afternoon at the James Grammer farm near
Bethel Grove and just before his death had walked down town from the William
Valentine home, where he lived, to buy some meat for supper. The two men kept bachelor
quarters. Mock had stopped in the
pool hall to ask Valentine what meat he should buy and was just leaving when he
fell dead near the door.
He was born Sept 5, 1883 at
Polo, IL, the son of Martin H. and Martha Mock, and was one of six children. His brothers and sister are Harry Mock, living east of
Liscomb; Mrs. L.E. Simcox of Robertson, Mrs. Julia Hulin of Gilman, Mrs. Jack

record seems to imply residencies in both of the two counties, if these are all
the same Thomas. Trying to use the Muck/Mock/Muuk spelling for clarification is
self defeating.
